I too published a package 'Login System'(http://www.phpclasses.org/package/5955-PHP-Authenticate-users-with-records-in-a-database.html). Now, I have changed the database interaction class with this package - 'Database Abstraction'(http://www.phpclasses.org/package/6535-PHP-Access-different-types-of-SQL-database.html). Hope these may help you. I believe 'Database Abstraction' package will definitely help you in some way.
